How Big Blue Whole House Filtration Works
Big Blue systems sit at the point of entry to your home. Water gets filtered before it reaches any faucet, showerhead, or appliance, so you don’t have to install a separate house filter at each fixture. The result is clean water and improved water quality at every tap, from your kitchen drinking water supply to your showerheads and appliances.
A sediment filter cartridge handles the first pass, catching dirt, dust, sand, rust, iron particles, and other sediment before they reach your plumbing. We carry 5-micron sediment cartridges in both 10-inch (W303) and 20-inch (W304) sizes, compatible with Ametek and Pentek filter housings.
After sediment, a carbon block filter takes out chlorine, chemical odor, and the taste issues that come with treated municipal water. Our KX Matrikx carbon blocks are available in 10-inch (W301) and 20-inch (W302B), and they fit any standard Big Blue housing. For homes on well water dealing with hydrogen sulfide or iron, these carbon blocks also help reduce the associated smell and discoloration.
If the filter housing itself needs replacing, we stock Pentek Big Blue housings with 1-inch ports in both 10-inch (W305H) and 20-inch (W306H) sizes. The 4.5-inch diameter format provides greater cartridge capacity than standard water filters, which translates to a higher flow rate and longer service life across a wide range of house filtration setups.

When to Replace Your Big Blue Filters
Replace your sediment cartridges every 3 to 6 months and your carbon blocks every 6 to 12 months. Housings themselves are durable and only need replacing if they crack or develop a leak.
If your home runs on well water or you deal with heavy sediment, plan on the shorter end of those ranges. A noticeable drop in water pressure is the clearest sign your sediment filter cartridge has reached capacity.
Never Miss a Filter Change
Every tap in your home runs through the same Big Blue system. When a replacement filter is overdue, the whole house feels it. Our AutoShip program sends replacement cartridges on the schedule you set, so you swap them before the old ones give out.
