How Triple O Water Treament Works

A Triple O ozone system treats water directly inside your storage tank using ozone gas, with no chemicals, no salt, and no carbon to swap out. The system runs continuously, so your tank water stays treated around the clock. It is one of the most effective water treatment systems available for well water applications, and it handles the job through a natural water oxidation process that leaves pure oxygen as the only byproduct.

An air pump pushes ambient air into the ozone generator, where a high-intensity UV lamp splits oxygen atoms and recombines them into ozone (O₃). That ozone gas travels through tubing to a diffuser sitting at the bottom of your tank, where it releases millions of micro-sized bubbles. As the bubbles rise, they oxidize iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, heavy metals, bacteria, tannins, and other contaminants on contact. A submerged filter module captures the oxidized particles, and the whole tank circulates at about 10 gallons per minute.

Systems with UV add another layer of quality water treatment. Water passes through a UV chamber where ultraviolet light destroys remaining microorganisms. The Triple O system also helps with water hardness by reducing mineral buildup through continuous ozonation, and it can improve acidic water by neutralizing dissolved CO₂. Homes dealing with hard water, water cloudiness, or sulfur odor will notice a difference within the first few days of operation.

When to Replace Your Triple O Components

The UV lamp is the part that wears out fastest. Over time the glass solarizes, blocking more and more of the UV output that generates ozone. We carry three options: the WHL102 replacement lamp, the TL01 genuine Triple O original, and the WHL101 compatible upgrade. All should be swapped every 18 months per the manufacturer’s guidelines. Waiting longer means your system is producing less ozone than it needs to treat the water properly.

Air pumps run continuously and typically need replacing every 1 to 2 years. We stock original Triple O pumps in 120v (TOA101) and 230v (TOA102), along with compatible alternatives in both voltages (AP120 and AP220). If you see fewer bubbles in the tank or quality water output starts slipping, the pump is the first thing to check. The filter module needs cleaning every 60 to 90 days, and the diffuser stone should be inspected for mineral deposits at the same time. Homes with hard water or high mineral content will need to clean these components more frequently.

Never Miss a Part Replacement

Triple O systems don’t give you a warning light when ozone output drops. Water quality degrades slowly, and by the time you notice iron staining or the rotten egg smell coming back, the water treatment system has been underperforming for weeks. AutoShip delivers replacement lamps and pumps on a schedule that matches your maintenance cycle, so the new part is already at your door when the old one is due.
